Be assured that from the first day we heard of you, we haven’t stopped praying for you, asking God to give you wise minds and spirits attuned to his will, and so acquire a thorough understanding of the ways in which God works. (Colossians 1:9 MSG)
We are still on this verse. Today’s focus is on the phrase “understanding of the ways in which God works.” Can we understand the ways God works?🤔 Paul exclaimed; “O the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are His judgments, and His ways past finding out! (Romans 11:33). 😳 Then we find in Isaiah 55:8-9, God said, “For My thoughts are not your thoughts, nor are your ways My ways. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than your ways, and My thoughts than your thoughts.” 😔
Again, I ask, can we really understand the ways God works? This verse, reveals that we can. 😇 When you develop a wise mind and attuned spirit it is possible. NOTE: ‘Understanding’ does not mean predicting, presuming, or speculating on God. Rather, it is more about discerning and accepting His dealings as well as trusting Him. Ever heard the hymn “God moves in a mysterious way, His wonders to perform”? Inspirational!!!
You know, God is God and He does what He likes. You cannot put God into a box, you cannot limit His operations with your straitjackets, and you cannot instruct Him on what to do. Just in case you have been quarrelling 😡 with Him because He has not acted as you expected, drop it! He loves you, knows what is best and is working things out for you.
I’ll let you in on a secret, God reveals Himself to His companions. But to the multitude He limits their acquaintance and experience of Him. He is different to His devoted followers, to them He reveals secrets and strategies. “He made known His ways unto Moses, His acts unto the children of Israel” (Psalms 103:7). God still seeks people who want to get up close and personal with Him. Will you?
How would understanding the ways God works be advantageous to you?
1. It will give you peace to rise above anxiety and panic because you are certain of a good ending.
2. It will stabilise your faith because you are assured that God is not mismanaging your life.
3. It will build inner strength to help you forge on in discouraging times and fulfil your destiny purpose.
4. It will prevent you developing negative feelings towards God. (something satan always tries to achieve via discouragement eg. He doesn’t love me. He does not care about me. He has failed me… etc)
Walking with God is not always easy. Most of our Bible characters had difficult times. Abraham and his tests, Joseph and his destiny journey, the 3 Hebrew boys in the furnace, Job who lost everything, Paul etc? The only reason they never lost out was because they knew their God! They understood He always has a plan and His purposes are always good.
People who know God become great.
